‘Bamboo tableau’ Design Museum Denmark 1997

After a trip to Bali to study the work of designer Lise Garland the designer couple Dorte Østergaard and Jakob Berg put on exhibition “Bamboo Tableau” presenting prototypes in molded bamboo. The couple was among the first, if not the first, to use this method in furniture design.

Their experiments with heat molded, bent, sawn and split bamboo shown at the exhibition was a series of small side tables with legs made from one thick bamboo stick that had been split and heat molded, a molded laminated chair, a deck chair with side members of split and glued oval bamboo profiles as well as a lamp in sawed bamboo to highlight the characteristic patterns and structure of the bamboo.
